Dwane Stewart

Director of Optimum Training

Graduated with a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology

15yrs experience working as a Human Movement and Performance Specialist

Has worked extensively in private practice with acute injury rehabilitation

Was contracted to the Chiefs Rugby franchise as a high-performance rehabilitation specialist, and currently delivering highly successful injury prevention programs to businesses.

He cares about the health and well-being of everyone and believes that each individual has the ability to improve the quality of their own life, given the proper tools and proper training.

Wayne Milicich

Founder of Optimum Training

Physiotherapist of 40yrs experience

25yrs experience developing and delivering successful injury prevention training

Developed the Kinaesthetic Intelligence system for injury prevention

Runs professional development courses for health professional’s on Accelerated Motor Learning and high-performance movement education.

He cares and believes in the value and worth of exceptional training for everyone, to improve the quality of people’s lives and reduce the human and dollar costs of injuries.

Stephen Burden

MoveSmart Facilitator
(Waikato Region)

Stephen is our Hamilton-based trainer, covering the Waikato region. He first studied physical education, human movement studies and sport science. After gaining some work experience, he returned to complete a Master’s degree through the Medical Faculty at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Stephen was the first Biokineticist to come through the UCT Programme, training under some of the foremost Sports Medicine specialists and clinicians. Using these skills Stephen runs his own Clinical practice, where he focusses on musculoskeletal injuries, exercise rehabilitation and soft tissue therapy. 

Academic teaching roles at the University of Zululand and Wintec, training Biokineticists, Clinical Exercise Physiologists, Sport Science students kept Stephen at the forefront of education, research, and practical training. Over 25 years, Stephen has used his skills to work with national and international athletes and teams. He was part of the NZ Health Team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India. Stephen is a competitive Master’s track and field athlete and currently holds NZ and Oceania age-group records in LJ and TJ.

Jeremy Young

MoveSmart Facilitator
(Manawatu Region)

Jeremy Yung is a physiotherapist with almost 30 years of experience. He specialises in a variety of areas including breathing retraining, chronic pain, and occupational health. For 18 years he owned and operated a rural practice and now works primarily as a contractor based in Palmerston North.

He works on ACC funded programmes to assist people with long term injuries to recover and return to work and restore their quality of life. He is passionate about empowering clients to be the best they can be by understanding and applying the principles of human movement and design.

Hayley McKee

MoveSmart Facilitator
(Southland & Otago Regions)

Hayley is a Physiotherapist based in Dunedin and covers the Southland and Otago regions. Hayley completed her Physiotherapy studies in Edinburgh and moved to New Zealand in 2008. During this time, she has worked at Physio clinics in Dunedin and Timaru. Hayley currently works for Recovery Room Physio & Performance and is based in Otago Boys’ High School. This job involves dealing with a lot of sports injuries and planning treatment and rehab programmes to enable clients to get back to the activities that they love. Education around training frequency and intensity and the importance of recovery to the body make up an important part of this role.
